Perugia-Cesena 0-1

Perugia, Feb. 28, 2021 – The 4th day of the return leg of the women’s Serie B championship, played at the Renato Curi antistadium this afternoon, ended with a result of 0-1 in favor of the visiting team.

It was all decided in the first half, where in the 35th minute, taking advantage of a defensive error, the Romagna women went into the net with Papaleo. Beyond the result, on the field the red and white defense was compact and well organized despite some absences. In the second half, the griffonets tried to react but without being able to build really dangerous actions. The only shot that bothered the visiting team came from Erika Orsi who, on a free kick from the distance, shot directly into the goal but the ball ended up in the goalkeeper’s arms.

Overall a fairly even contest, with Cesena rewarded for a fair amount of extra cynicism and concreteness.

Adele Bortolato‘s performance was good, highlighting the growth of the red and white defense both individually and collectively. “It was quite a difficult comeback,” reports the red and white number 6, “after a stop that lasted more than two weeks. We started today’s match with little decisiveness and conviction, and partly we were also affected by the absences. In the next matches we will need more firmness and confidence under goal, we will have to give our best in all 90 minutes without ever giving up.”

Coach Luciano Mancini commented on today’s match as follows, “I think it was a positive match if we consider that in the first leg in Cesena we had conceded 4 goals. Today despite the absences I saw a team that fought and fought, unfortunately, however, the episode of the 1-0 condemned us to defeat. Perhaps a draw would have been more than deserved. Another more than positive note I think is the fact that we continue to debut very young girls from the Primavera.”

This concludes a weekend that saw both women’s teams beaten, with the Primavera team defeated at home by peer Lazio Women 0-6.
