Perugia, Jan. 10, 2021 – Luciano Mancini’s girls came close to achieving a feat, but in the end the victory went to Cittadella 3-2 in the replay match of the 7th day of the women’s Serie B championship, played at the “Renato Curi” antistadium this afternoon.
Under incessant rain and with a temperature around 4 degrees, the Venetians immediately took the lead as early as 2′ with Kastrati ‘s goal on a play contested by Perugia players (the referee’s panel remained firm in the decision and awarded the goal). On 27’ Cittadella doubled the lead with Saggion.
In the 36th minute the match was reopened by a great goal from the distance by Arianna Franciosa on an assist by Lucrezia Di Fiore. Only two minutes pass and, thanks to a fantastic action brought forward by Siena Stambolich on the right flank, captain Giulia Piselli signs the equalizing goal. Biancorosse found courage and aggressiveness but the first half ended 2-2.
In the second half despite the excellent performance of the red and white ladies, who managed to create dangerous actions, it was up to Cittadella to have the last word, which in goal in the 68th minute with Zorzan finally closed the game at 2-3.
Captain Giulia Piselli, author of the temporary equalizing goal, commented on the day as follows:
“It was a beautiful emotion to be able to score and bring things back to even, especially because of the great sacrifices the team is making. To see a group running to cheer like that is priceless, it is one of the most beautiful emotions. I am delighted with the group and I don’t blame myself or my teammates for anything.”
